CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK 4
DAYS
THE OTHER LOST CITY OF THE INKAS. The adventure I like more. Spectacular and distant, choquequirao was set right on the top of a mountain in between the province of Apurimaq and la Convencion Cusco at 3.080 m.a.s.l. enough reason to be use along 40 years as shelter of the last Incas 1º day The adventure stars early, bus driving we'll pass through look outs of Salkantay snow cap (6,300mts=20,600 f.a.s.l.) and Limatambo town where it's optional to take a breakfast or a brunch or visit the archaeological site of Tarawasi (stone wall with flowered designs - see pictures). Two hours later we'll arrive to Cachora Village (2,800 m. or 9184 ft a.s.l.). Over there we meet our cook and horsemen. Then, looking the Padreyoc snow caps (18,928 feet), we start the hike. This warm day is like 4 or 5 hours hike to campsite Chikisca (1,750mts=5540fts a.s.l.), beautiful dry and hot place with some of fruits, drinks, showers and flat ground to sleep deservedly, so there you'll have food, tee, dinner, fun and briefing for the next day. 2nd day Early in the morning, after a good fresh breakfast, we go down hill: 40 min. to playa of the Apurimaq River, rest for a while and then up hill for the next 4 hrs. to the second camping near the archaeological complex of Choquequirao; at 3000 m. or 9840fts. The atmosphere here is excellent to see the Milky Way and relax like the Holly Mountains around. This day is demanding because of steep slopes and zigzags of the little canyon. But worth while when you get the "stronghold", you start feeling the energy coming to transmit knowledge, religion and history. The rest of the afternoon is to explore the lost city, we will see as much as is possible. There are different spots to take more pictures, listen the history on this sacred place, and visit the just discovered Sector of Llamas. 3th day. We star way back home, first: hike tree hours down to camping near the River Apurimac: playa Rosalina (beach). It means climb down from 10,168 f to 4,920 f. hot and dry place perfect to take a cool shower and hike to the next camping named Coca masana; this is a look out of the valley where is seen condors gliding around you. Sunset it so beautiful from here, but over all is a less beating camping with a little shop with refrigerator¡¡¡. We’ll have dinner, briefing and early sleep. Thankfully next day is not hard. 4th day. Start early to avoid the burning sun, lots of water and coca leaves for the next 3 or 4hrs. Straight to Cachora town, where lunch and transfer car awaits for us, the last stretch is very easy and enjoyable, last opportunity to see condors at the pass of Capulilloq or visit a little bit the small town.
